Interview Questions for Administrative Assistant

You were eager to get the admin assistant job and had applied for a couple of them. I can understand your joy at being called for the interview. Performing well in the interview means a lot you as the final verdict depends on how you were at it. So, how do you ensure that you give your best in the interview for administrative assistant job? Simple. Prepare well in advance.

By preparation I do not mean that you must mug your answers well. In fact, you must be authentic and genuine while answering the interview questions. At the same time, remember that it is only with preparation that you are sure to come out of the room and not utter: I knew the answer but just could not think of it then! You simply can not afford to say that!

That is the reason why I have jotted down the top four most frequently asked questions here. I have also made some suggestions on how best to answer them.

  • Describe yourself
    Give a truthful description about your family, the educational qualification you hold and total years of work experience. Be brief and up to the point as the main aim of the interviewer is to learn about your past history. You can sum up at the end by making a brief mention of your skills and strengths that are required in the Admin Assistant Job. You can state that you are organized at work and believe in prioritizing your time for maximum efficiency.
  • What should be the qualities of an admin assistant?
    While answering such questions, it is wise to give a reasonable list of qualities and all the administrative assistant skills that are required in an admin assistant job. You may begin with firstly, an admin assistant must be methodical, secondly, learn to prioritize the job, thirdly, make a good team member etc. Remember that an admin assistant needs to interact with a wide variety of people and hence, must possess good communication skills and a pleasing personality.
  • Why do you want to join us?
    You may begin with exhibiting an eagerness to be associated with a growing company and also add that you look forward to the interesting challenges that it provides. Avoid criticizing the earlier company or the current one you are working with. Never highlight the negative aspects of that company, rather emphasize that you are eager to learn a great deal from the new one. If this is your first job break, then it is better to be as honest as possible. Show your eagerness to learn and a promise to combine your skills with the opportunities that this company is presenting for you.
  • Can you perform under pressure?
    This is a common question that admin assistants are asked as their profiles involve a great deal of work pressure, where they may be handling several assignments together. To tackle any work performance pressure, one must begin to plan and prioritize various duties. In this way, you would be enjoying all the duties and responsibilities of administrative assistant,instead of snapping at about everything out of tension. You may provide with one good example of how you fulfilled your duties and handled the job in hand with cool-headed wisdom from the work experience of the earlier company.
